For several years now, African cuisines have been thriving and reinventing themselves across Europe and France. Driven by African, Afro-descendant, and Afro-European chefs, these flavors are captivating more and more food lovers in search of authenticity and innovation.
At Studio Matongé, we are thrilled to have contributed to this movement by lending pieces from our new collection of mudcloth fabrics for the photo shoot of "Mon Afrique", the stunning cookbook by the talented Anto Cocagne, aka le Chef Anto.
Our Mudcloths at the Heart of Chef Anto’s Culinary Universe
Thoughtfully repurposed, our mudcloths cushion covers and throws were used to enhance the visual storytelling of the book, bringing warmth and texture to the dishes presented. These traditional fabrics, rich in history and symbolism, seamlessly complement Chef Anto’s Afro-inspired recipes, adding an artistic and cultural dimension to each page.
Published by Mango, "Mon Afrique" is an invitation to discover a continent through its flavors, textures, and stories. We are proud to have contributed in our own way to showcasing the richness of this vibrant culinary heritage.
Festive Recipes to Try at Home
Among the many mouthwatering recipes in the book, some stand out as perfect for the holiday season. Here are our favorites—sure to impress your guests!
Pork in Peanut Sauce
A classic reinvented by Chef Anto, infused with the tangy brightness of ginger and the creamy richness of peanuts. Served with white rice, topped with crushed peanuts and fresh coriander, it’s an explosion of flavors in every bite.
Vegetarian or alternative option: Swap the pork for beef, poultry, or white fish—the sauce is just as delicious!
Floating Islands with Cappuccino Cream & Amarula®
A luxurious take on the classic French dessert. Chef Anto elevates floating islands with a velvety cappuccino-infused cream, delicately enhanced by the exotic sweetness of Amarula.
The contrast between the airy meringue and the aromatic depth of the sauce is a true invitation to travel.
Pear, Vanilla & Creamy Baobab Yule Log (For expert home cooks!)
A fresh and refined twist on the traditional yule log, combining the natural sweetness of pear with the vibrant, tangy notes of bissap and baobab powder. The perfect way to end a festive meal on a light, sun-kissed, and original note.
Behind the Scenes: A Fusion of Culinary and Artistic Expression
During the cookbook photo shoot, Studio Matongé’s bogolan fabrics were thoughtfully integrated into the compositions, elevating each dish with rich patterns and warm textures.
The result? A series of beautifully curated table settings where tradition meets contemporary elegance.
